I guess some people can find use for it, otherwise it wouldn't be available. But you're right, I also asked myself why would I use it, especially because there's no info visible like on DSLR viewfinders. The only reason that I can remember (for using it) is that you get a more steady grip, to avoid handshake etc. I’m not sure.
